WHS Course/Playing Handicap Calculations
Introduction
For these examples, I am going to use an Example Championship Course from the Back Tees
Terms and Values Used in the Examples
- Par = 71
- (CR) Course Rating = 75.1
- (SR) Slope Rating = 132
- (AGS) Adjusted Gross Score = 85
- (PCC) Playing Conditions Calculation = 0
- Our Example player has a Handicap Index of 11.4
England, Wales and Ireland
Course Handicap = HI * (SR / 113)
- 11.4 * (132 / 113) = 13.3168141592
- Rounded to 13
Playing Handicap for Medal - Stableford - Par/Bogey = CH * Competition Allowance
- 13 * 0.95 = 12.35
- Rounded to 12
Score Differential = (113/SR) * (AGS - CR - PCC)
- (113 / 132) * (85 - 75.1 - 0) = 8.5
- Score Diff is rounded to 1 decimal place
Scotland
Course Handicap = HI * (SR / 113)
- 11.4 * (132 / 113) = 13.3168141592
- DO NOT ROUND
Playing Handicap for Medal - Stableford - Par/Bogey = CH * Competition Allowance
- 13.3168141592 * 0.95 = 12.6509734512
- Rounded to 13
Score Differential = (113/SR) * (AGS - CR - PCC)
- (113 / 132) * (85 - 75.1 - 0) = 8.5
- Score Diff is rounded to 1 decimal place
Rest of the World (USGA)
Course Handicap = HI * (SR / 113) + (CR - PAR)
- 11.4 * (132 / 113) + (75.1 - 71) = 17.4168141592
- DO NOT ROUND
Playing Handicap for Medal - Stableford - Par/Bogey = CH * Competition Allowance
- 17.4168141592 * 0.95 = 16.5459734512
- Rounded to 17
Score Differential = (113/SR) * (AGS - CR - PCC)
- (113 / 132) * (85 - 75.1 - 0) = 8.5
- Score Diff is rounded to 1 decimal place
One WHS for the whole world???
Note that in the examples shown
- In England, Wales and Ireland the playing handicap is 12
- In Scotland, the playing handicap is 13
- In the Rest of the World (USGA) the playing handicap is 17
So how is the same for everybody??
- The Score Differential is consistent and everybody has a Score Diff of 8.5
